India is the Land of Magic……As time goes, Indian magicians are trying to revive their ancient art. In past, ancient street magicians from “Maharaja bhoj” to “Bhanumoti” to “Ganapati” then P.C. Sorcar, the chain gradually goes on on and on……Indian magic changes into different forms but still survives. The main reasons which help it to survive are the proper knowledge in magic, presentation, love and passion. Indian magicians are doing this art by heart and not only for income. But it is very sorry to say that present condition of Indian magic is not so pleasant. Indian magic goes very slow. New types of presentation, set-up and items are very rare. It is like old wine in old bottle. The number of full professional magician is very rare and their monthly income from magic is poor.
Specifically there are five problems for Poor condition of Indian magicians
1. Innovation of magic items, props, presentation and proper set-up for magic is very insignificant.
2. Poor monetary condition of Indian magicians, less interest to invest in publicity, improper planning and lack of professional knowledge.
3. No media back up and disinterest of electronic and print media.
4. Lack of knowledge in presentation, hard work and tenacity.

1. New inventions of Indian magicians are very less. Maximum products are of old type. The secret part is not so modern according to the present age. Now-a-days maximum Indian magicians are very lazy and disinterested to create new items. They always try to use readymade products. Innovative power of Indian magicians now-a-days is very less. Proper knowledge about presentation of products, props and set-up for magic is very less. Presentation level is not up to date and not impressive. The knowledge of stage set-up is also not very impressive. A long way we are travelling, but our speed level for innovation is very slow. Concept of dramatic presentation, choreography, fancy stage set up is very less in Indian magic shows. Some Indian magicians are trying, but their presentations are not up to the mark and weak like a child’s play. Proper planned shows and set ups are very rare.
2. Poor financial, educational and family conditions of Indian magicians are also stumbling block in the way of success. Income level of magicians is very low. Rate of shows in India are not sufficient to make a magician fully professional in this field, and the number of magic shows is very less. It is not a compulsory art in all occasions. Indian magicians are largely responsible for this poor condition of show market. Maximum Indian magicians are less interested in publicity of them and this art. Very poor knowledge in publicity field and magicians are disinterested to spend some little money in publicity. They only try to earn and gain but not to invest in publicity for future returns. Some are trying to invest, but improper planning and lack of continuity make their plan fail. Constant hammering in publicity field is very rare. For that reason the return is also poor. Professional knowledge and according to proper effort are very rare.
3. Indian media is also very much guilty in this case. They have no interest in this subject. The subject name is known to them but the definition is unrecognized. The media persons have scant interest and knowledge about it. Actually renowned magicians are very less and their faces are very much unrecognized by the media. Numbers of popular and public known magicians are very less. There is no icon in Indian magic now who can represent and symbolize Indian magic. Maximum magicians are performing their shows in their own state only and thus failed to rouse universal appeal to the countrymen. Total country wise planned travel for shows by an artist is very rare. So, media is not interested. They only know their business for news selling. Indian magicians should try to make their work so hard that it becomes news to all public. That thing is missing. We have to catch the attentions of both electronic and print media. Magic programmers, reality shows in T.V channels, coverage of magic related articles in different news papers and coverage of magician’s activities must in huge numbers to make this art famous and compulsory.
4. The laziness of Indian magicians and lack of practice are big problems for proper growth of this art. Magicians must be hard workers to achieve success. Proper and systematic practice makes an artist successful. Presentation knowledge of magicians should be more perfect and marketing ideas more viable. At first we have to fix our target according to our present capacity and limit. Then go for it with full off hard work and dedication.
5. Indian magicians are not united. There is no basic unity among them. There are some magic circles in India. But common unity among their members is starkly missing. For this reason there are no specific rates of magician for a specific type of show. Maximum magicians are jealous to one another. Magicians are only pretend to be good friend but indeed they are not that. For this reason there is no specific rate for a particular magic product. Due to lack of unity and brotherhood Indian magicians cannot claim any right to the Government for development of magic.
Some solutions for success
1. Indian magicians should be well literate in magic. They have to know this art from top to bottom. Lot of practice and culture is needed. Own creation should be needed. Our knowledge of magic should be up to date. The knowledge in light, sound, choreography, team management is very much needed. We have to be good audience of great magic shows and study their good manners before make himself a performer.
2. We must try to publicity this art. It will help us a lot in professional field. Proper planning for publicity and investment will give us a huge return in future. The more we invest the more we get benefit. Maximum renowned magicians of world are famous for their good knowledge in publicity field. To get success in a ticket show the brand name is very much essential. To earn a brand name planned publicity is necessary. We have to beat our own drums to catch the media. Then electronic, print and other media will take interest. Magic should be a trend and a compulsory element of all the occasions.
3. Indian magicians must be more and more united to develop this art. We have to vanish our ego and selfishness. Specific rates of shows and magic props must be decided right now. We have to help other magicians by all means and give them good suggestions. Because if one fails to perform one item to the audience, it is to be considered as a failure of the art itself. We should not vie with one another badly for shows and business. Do not forget that you are an artist, your behavior should be gentle and you have to maintain artistic spirit.
4. Public involvement and awareness of this art is very much necessary by the magicians right now. We have to spread out this art from door to door. Make magic a common hobby to all. If that is ensured then automatically number of reality shows, TV programmers and media back up will increase. Make this art like an addiction to all over the country.
5. Number of magic teaching societies or schools should be more. This teaching institution must be well organized with proper systematic methods and curriculum guided by experienced teachers. The institutions also have to maintain the reasonable rates of magic props. Black marketing in magic products must be prohibited right now. As well as these teaching institutions should try to make this art more popular to common people and catch the interested person as their student. There should be a proper syllabus on the art of magic to learn it easily by the common people.
At last, we all have to wish for the best. We have to try very hard to fight all the problems right now. We should not confine the dream in our own minds and try to convert it in practical field. A.SARKAR was born in on 6th June, 1988 at Calcutta, West Bengal, India. His full name is Abhisek Sarkar. His father Sebabrata Sarkar is a retired Eastern Railway officer & mother Shipra Sarkar is a house wife. He has an elder daughter. Short & happy family it is. Abhisek from his child hood was very intelligent & meritorious student. In his childhood he was very interested in cricket & join East Calcutta District Sports Council at the age 10 at class V. But due to heavy presser of education he cannot continue more than 2years. At that time he played different matches & achieve success.

At the age of 13 at class VII, Abhisek interested in Magic at 2001. Amitava Ghosh, a School friend of Abhisek purchased a Magic book “Magic O Bhojbaji” of Magician A.C. Sorcar from Calcutta Book Fair in 2001. This book made them interested in the Art of Magic. They were trying to make the small Magic items from the book & performed together to their friends & neighbors. After performing different tricks & getting appreciation from audience they became more interested. Abhisek & Amitava visited different places to see magic shows & Magic shops in different fairs to collect items. After few months they altogether have a huge collection of close-up magic items to save their little pocket money. They wanted to purchase the conjuring items of stage, some semi illusions & be a professional famous magician. But due to shortage of money this collection procedure was running very slowly. In the mean time Abhisek collected many Bengali books on Magic from different street shops, libraries & magicians & tried to perform the items. He was fully addicted in Magic & dreams himself as future great magician. His 2 close friends Amit Sikdar & Manobendranath Das was also get interest from Abhisek in Magic & wanted be his assistant. Some neighbor children & school friends also got huge interest in the art of Magic & respect Abhisek as their “Guru” (Teacher). Abhisek has a great business mentality, sharp brain to realize everything & good convincing power. He then sells the Magic items to his friends for money, sometimes teach the Magic tricks & earn. Abhisek was Selling & giving Magic books for rent. All these ways he earns money & invests to purchase conjuring & semi-illusion items.

In monetary case no help from his parents he got. Abhisek parents only encouraged him morally & tell him to continue education with Magic. Their first priority was in education not In Magic. Even they will try to stop Magic if the education was hampering. Abhisek clearly understand that this fight was his alone to be a Magician, no help he will get. His cricket carrier was stop due to his parents for his education & middle class mentality. But this time he was very much eager to continue the art of Magic under any circumstances. For this willing nature, tenacity & love for Magic, he became a good magician gradually. In the end of 2002 his school friend Amitava gradually became less interested in Magic & after a few days he totally stop magic & started to play guitar. Amitava sold all his magic items to Abhisek.

In the year 2002 Abhisek performed his first stage show in his locality Beleghta, Calcutta in the occasion “Durga puja” Austomi. It was his first stage performance. Before that Abhisek was never coming to stage for performing anything. He achieved success & huge appreciation from all audiences & his neighbors. He performed all the items with good patter & without any hesitation. Amit Sikdar & Manobendranath Das helped him as assistants. Abhisek got Rs.100/- as reward from the Puja committee & big pack of sweets. Abhisek excitement & interest was increased very high & one by one he performed lots of shows. He was gradually going to be a famous magician in East Calcutta area. He made a team with his local friends and made them his assistants.

Abhisek had a proper sense in Magic performance, choreography & a good leader type personality from that time. This qualities, love for Magic & proper planning as well as business sense made him a successful professional magic artist. At the age of only 15, he became a professional magician. Abhisek first professional show payment was Rs.800/- in a Durga Puja at Beleghata in the year, 2004. After that he performed stage, birthday, corporate, picnic, school, festivals successfully & earned money as well as huge fame throughout the West Bengal. He maintained his personal mobile phone & land number. Then Abhisek Sarkar was deciding to promote his name throughout different methods. Abhisek gave small advertisements in Sangbad Pratidin , then Bartaman, Anandabazar & different news papers in a regular basic. These advertisements helped him very much to reach lakhs of people & got Magic shows. Gradually he became famous. At first he gave the advertisements in his name “Abhisek Sarkar”. But after few months he thought that it would be better if he used his name in the short form “A.SARKAR”. Then Magician A.Sarkar arrived in the market. A.Sarkar also gave many TV & Cable advertisements in different channels & also invested in Wall-painting advertisement thought out Kolkata city. His technique of advertisements & sense of saving the money for future was excellent.

In the mean time he passed Madyamik exam in 1st division from Labanhrad Bidyapith (AD School,Saltlake) in 2004. Abhisek at that time was secretary of his local club “Friends Club”. He organized Sarasawati Puja & diffent cricket-foot ball tournaments. These activities made him a proper leader & a calculative as well as planned person. These experiences helped him very much in his professional show field. One day he visited a magic show in a local club by Magician Alok Sanyal & his small group. Abhisek enjoyed the show very much & became his fan. Then he visited Magician Alok Sanyal house in beleghata. Alok Sanyal adviced him in many Magic related matters & loved him like his child. Alok Sanyal was not Abhisek teacher but a good adviser. Abhisek then almost weekly, sometimes regularly visit Mr.Sanyal’s house & discussed on Magic. The influence & encouragements By MR. Sanyal to Abhisek helped him a lot. Alok Sanyal sold many magic items to Abhisek due to his age. Both of them exchanged their excess shows.

Abhisek continued Magic as well as his education very well & passed Higher Secondary exam again in 1st division in the year 2006 from Bidhannagar Govt. high school (Salt Lake). In this school he was very popular student for magic & he performed in “Labanhrad Mancha” in a school occasion. After passed higher secondary Abhisek sit in joint entrance exam of law & selected. Then he was admitted in 5years graduation course in Law from Calcutta University in “Jogesh Chandra Chowdhury Law College”. He was very popular in college also for performing Magic. In college life the name Magician A.Sarkar was very much popular in whole Bengal. Big advertisements with pictures published in different news paper. Then Abhisek think that he must have a fixed income per month to continue Magic. Because some months were show less at that time. But he was not interested to any private job. Always he wanted to create his own identity.

Then he decided that he will provide Magic teaching classes for continuing income. But there was no institution in Bengal to take him as a teacher. Then A.Sarkar started his own Magic institution “MAGIC WORLD” at his home, Beleghata on January, 2006. He placed advertisements in different news papers & Tv. Gradually the number of students was increased. Maximum ages were more than Abhisek. But they gave respect him as a “Guru” & followed him. A.Sarkar created different methods to easily learn Magic in different courses. Monthly exam, personality skills & voice test also were provided in Magic World. Gradually hundreds of students got admission within 2 years & Magic World became the largest Magic training institute of Bengal. A.Sarkar popularity & creativities also increase very high.

A.Sarkar completed his graduation on 2011 & achieves B.A.L.L.B degree from Calcutta University. In those years he performed more than 400 successful Magic shows throughout the West Bengal. He balanced his college educational presser & show presser equally. During college life he organized many self arranged ticket selling big budget Illusion shows. But his 1st self arranged ticket show was in “Sukanta Mancha” Beleghata,Kolkta in the year 2007,when he was only 19years old. In that show ticket rates were Rs.40, 30, 20 & 10 only. After that he arranged many ticket shows in different places, almost one place in a month. His wealth & fame become high. He purchased 2 brand new cars & maintains his office nicely. He always has a showy personality. He has a good publicity skill & status maintain quality. But easily he makes friend with others. He has a wonderful personality & easily attracts other & used them in his need.

A.Sarkar is very much calculative in case of money from childhood. He opened Bank account in the age of 18. A.Sarkar strictly invest 50% of his monthly earning in Bank savings & family expenses, 25% invests in publicity & other 25% invests in development of his show. This is the easy strategy of his successful carrier. Abhisek father Mr. Sebabrata Sarkar helps him very much in stage anchoring & show promotion. His father is a good anchor & a critic of his show. Mother Shipra Sarkar also takes care all his show staffs, birds & animals. As a Magic teacher A.Sarkar achieves popularity throughout the Bengal. He opens another 3 branch offices in Rajpur (Garia), Baranagar (Dakkineswar) & Tamluck (East Medinipur) in his student’s houses. But due to the inefficiency of his students as a teacher, they cannot maintain the centers. After 1 year all were closed. In 2014 A.Sarkar opened another branch at Shyamnagar (24pgns, North) . Magic World institution becomes more popular to the Magic lovers. Classical Magic Course & Talking Doll course are also added with general Magic course. A.Sarkar appoints experienced teachers in those courses. At present total number of students are more than 500, who admitted in Magic World. Magician A.Sarkar always helps his students in all ways. He gives them commercial shows & makes them ready for future. Every year A.Sarkar arranges Magic Conference & competition in West Bengal, in where Magicians from all over country participate.
